Family Law

Family law is one of our true specialities at Inghams. We realise that life doesn’t always run smoothly. It is a sad fact that problems arise within families and relationships all too often. When they do, the advice and support of an experienced professional is essential.

Inghams is accredited with the Law Society’s Quality Scheme for Advanced Family Law and Children Law. This demonstrates the high level of knowledge, skill, experience and practice that our family law solicitors have.

Relationship breakdown

Whether you are married, co-habiting or have entered into a civil partnership, any breakdown in your relationship is likely to be a time of emotional upset and distress. You will probably have no real idea of the legal procedures involved or your rights and obligations. That is where we can help.

We have a team of specialist family law solicitors able to provide you with clear and understanding advice on a whole range of family matters, such as:

  • Divorce, dissolution and separation
  • Property and finances
  • Children – residence, contact and other arrangements
  • Injunctions
  • Child support

Emergency action

Sometimes urgent action is required on breakdown of a relationship, perhaps in relation to financial support, to prevent violence by one party against another, or to regulate occupation of a jointly occupied property.

You may need help and advice on issues affecting the care and well being of your children, which are not linked to relationship breakdown. This could include action taken by the local authority, such as care proceedings.

Pre-marital and co-habitation agreements

You may be about to embark upon a relationship and want advice on a pre-marital or co-habitation agreement setting out what should happen in the event of a breakdown in your relationship.

Whatever you require, our team of family specialists, including members of the Advanced Family Law Panel, the Family Panel and Resolution, are able to assist and will guide you through the process in a caring and compassionate manner.

Our approach is always to try and resolve matters on an amicable basis and to keep to a minimum the stress caused to you of what can be an extremely daunting experience.

Legal aid and funding

Inghams holds a Specialist Quality Mark with the Legal Aid Agency. This means we have undergone successful audits demonstrating our skill and proficiency in handling legally aided matters.

We will discuss the options for funding your case with you. As specialists accredited by the Legal Service Commission, we can consider your eligibility for Legal Aid provided your case and finances meet the relevant requirements. We offer discounted initial interviews for family law matters and a fixed fee arrangement can be agreed for certain kinds of proceedings.
